What are the service fees?

We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. We do this by providing an innovative and secure platform, offering 24/7 customer support, and building better tools. Service fees allow Rover to operate and continually make improvements based on the needs of our growing community. They also cover the Rover Guarantee, a reimbursement program primarily intended to protect pets.

FAQs

Owners

As a pet owner, you’ll see a 15% service fee listed separately at checkout when you pay for the booking. This fee can’t exceed £49/booking.

This fee helps support Rover’s operating costs, and it’s refundable should the booking be cancelled by either the sitter or the owner, following your sitter’s cancellation policy. If the booking dates change, the fee will be updated accordingly.

Please note that when you make a booking, the list price shown on a sitter’s profile includes the service fee paid by the sitter.

Sitters

Pet sitters and dog walkers take home 85% of their earnings from each booking. Pet sitters who offer recurring services take home 95% of their earnings for each booking.

Note: Take-home rates may vary by country and when your Rover profile was approved, as well as the types of services you offered at that time.

For example, if you’re a sitter moving countries, the take-home percentage will be adjusted to match that country’s current rate and your “Profile approval date” will be considered the date of your relocation. To learn more about the process of moving countries, please reach out to Rover Support from our help centre.

FAQs

How do these fees impact my services?

For pet sitters and dog walkers on Rover, these fees are designed to support you every step of the way, and they’re standard in our industry. We use these standard service fees to do things like:

  • Continually improve your experience with the Rover website and mobile apps.
  • Expand our Trust & Safety team to offer best-in-class 24/7 emergency support.
  • Create original educational content specifically for sitters in our Sitter Resources Centre and Help Centre.

In short, these fees help us build our business so we can help you build yours.

What is changing with sitter fees?

We’re reducing the sitter service fee to 5% for weekly care (also known as a recurring service) in the UK, which means you’ll take home 95% of your earnings for bookings that repeat weekly. Sitter fees for non-recurring services remain 15%.

Why are these fees being reduced?

We’re always looking for ways to support sitters and help them grow their pet sitting services. By lowering fees, we aim to make it easier for sitters to build long-term relationships with pet owners while keeping their services affordable and accessible.

Do I need to take any action to get the reduced fee?

No, you don’t need to do anything. If you have an existing booking for weekly care, the reduced fee will take effect the following Monday after May 6. As long as you’re a sitter offering weekly care for eligible services in the UK, the reduced fee will automatically apply to your recurring bookings.

Does this affect pet owners?

No, this change only applies to sitter fees. Pet owners will not see any changes in pricing or service fees.

Will this impact the support and protections provided by Rover?

No. You’ll still have access to 24/7 support, the Rover Guarantee, secure payments, marketing tools, and more. The fee reduction just means you keep more of your earnings.
